Introduction

In light of the challenges faced by the current educational landscape, the School of Education and Leadership, at the College of Education, University of Ghana, through its Department of Educational Studies and Leadership, is mounting the MA Educational Leadership and Management sandwich programme to offer prospective students the required expertise to design solutions to the challenges. The programme prepares educational practitioners in school leadership and management, teaching and learning processes, health and safety in schools and educational contexts, participation and involvement of the school community and resource mobilisation and use. 

Objectives

In our contemporary world, work schedules, family commitments and other responsibilities undermine one’s desire to further their education. This MA Sandwich programme is designed to help individuals to access high-quality research-intensive education, while attending to other responsibilities.

Essentially, the programme will enable students to develop:

• Broad-based knowledge and understanding of theories of educational leadership and management for better engagement in issues and debates in the field of education. 
• A range of frameworks for understanding learners’ performance, better and new ways of professional development and organisational learning so as to enhance professional practice in the Ghanaian context. 
• Better skills and understanding of issues relating to teacher quality, preparation, training and development of leadership identities and the critical examination of such identity formation in the context of equality, inclusiveness and social justice.

PROGRAMME DURATION

Due to changes in the academic calendar for the 2020/2021 academic year, this programme will be run virtually during the inter-semester break, from April to June 2021. Students admitted to the programme will, therefore, study over two long vacation periods to obtain the equivalence of one academic year (or two semesters).

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A good first degree, preferably second class lower or better (or a Final Grade Point Average of at least 2.0), in a relevant field of study at the University of Ghana or any recognized/accredited University.

HOW TO APPLY

University of Ghana application e-vouchers can be obtained by Ghanaian applicants for GH¢200.00 at the following banks: Zenith Bank, Universal Merchant Bank, Ecobank, Republic Bank, Agricultural Development Bank, Consolidated bank Ghana, GCB Bank and Fidelity Bank. Applicants should follow carefully the instructions on the voucher when completing the online application form.

• Bachelor’s Degree Certificate 
• Official Transcript
• Gazette/Marriage Certificate where name has changed 

The transcript should be scanned into one PDF or WORD document and attached to the application.

All applicants who graduated from the University of Ghana from 1996 to date should indicate their ‘STUDENT IDENTITY NUMBERS’ on their forms before submission.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS AND GHANAIANS APPLYING FROM ABROAD are required to pay to the University a non-refundable application processing fee of US$110.00.
