Department of Physical Education and Sport

Overview:

Sport has become one of the most prominent, pervasive and powerful institutions in society today. The immense socio-economic potential of the sport industry and its effects in our lives, require that sport is studied as an academic and professional discipline.

The department would uniquely offer courses and programmes that train qualified personnel to efficiently handle the business, social, political and sport for development aspects of the modern sport industry.

The new programme at the Department of Physical Education (PE) and Sport Studies will, in addition to satisfying the educational objectives, offer courses in sport leadership, sport management, sport law, sport business and administration, events organization and management, branding and marketing, sport policy and governance, domestic and international sport tourism and sport for development.

The Department will also conduct research into sport related issues and disseminate findings and recommendations to appropriate bodies, provide consultancy services to national and international sports practitioners and engage in extension services at the community level.
